Norske Skog

Electrical Base Load Energy Audit

April 2018

PROBLEM

DETA was contracted by Norske Skog to investigate the reason for the sites base load electricity being unusually high. Norske Skog participates in the wholesale electricity market, therefore, fluctuates production with the spot price. Due to this, it is advantageous for them to minimise the electrical base load as much as possible.

SOLUTION

To minimise electrical base load, DETA performed an Energy Audit focusing on reviewing efficiency measures that could be implemented on the main equipment and facilities that consume electricity when production is off.

OUTCOME

The Energy Audit identified 6,421 MWh worth of energy savings with a payback period of less than 5 years. Implementation of these projects would reduce energy costs by $482,000 per annum. In terms of reduced carbon emissions, this would equate to 826 tonnes per year.
