Capral Aluminium operates from Sunday evenings to Friday evenings, leaving Saturday for maintenance. Due to the long operating hours, there is plenty of opportunity to increase the energy efficiency of the plant, which will result in energy and cost savings.
DETA undertook a Type 2 Energy Audit where detailed site visits of the facility were undertaken. From the site visits Energy Management Opportunities were identified which outline possible energy reduction opportunities and projects.
From the Energy Audit, DETA identified potential energy savings of 5,042 MWh equating to cost savings of $599,100 annually. These were for opportunities that had a payback period of less than 5 years. The savings account for 5% of total energy use on the site. This is significant given a large portion of their load is electrode melting.
