PROBLEM

Barkers Fruit Processors located in Geraldine produce jams, chutneys, syrups, and condiments. The processes required to make these products require energy and water input. To reduce costs, reducing energy and water use provided the best opportunities.

SOLUTION

DETA provided a Type 2 Energy Audit which offered options for reducing energy and water use. Involved in the Energy Audit was a review of all energy consuming equipment and facilities onsite. The audit also aimed to capture opportunities that would improve water consumption and address the current capacity constraints.

OUTCOME

Form the Energy Audit, DETA identified 4,837 MWh worth of energy savings with a payback of less than five years. Along with energy savings, process improvement opportunities were also identified which focused on increasing the effective capacity of site utilities.
